The program aims to alleviate the stresses associated with caregiving by focusing on the well-being of the caregiver, providing access to respite care, addressing the need for formal and informal supports, and providing financial reimbursement for out-of-pocket costs associated with caregiving-related services and supplies. The program is administered by your local Area Agency on Aging . Each caregiver is assigned a care manager who will come to the care receivers' home, conduct a comprehensive assessment of the needs of the caregiver, provide support, and work with them to develop a person-centered plan of care. Office of Vocational Rehabilitation OVR The PA Office of Vocational Rehabilitation OVR https://www.dli.pa.gov/Individuals/Disability-Services/ovr/Pages/default.aspx The Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, or OVR, provides vocational rehabilitation services to help persons with disabilities prepare for, obtain or maintain employment. An Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE) is developed, outlining a vocational objective, services, providers and responsibilities. Counseling and guidance, diagnostic services, assessments, information and referral, job development and placement, and personal services such as readers or sign language interpreters are provided at no cost to the individual. Certain services are subject to a Financial Needs Test (FNT) and may require financial participation by the customer. Also, by law, OVR customers receiving Social Security benefits for their disability (SSI, SSDI) are exempt from OVR’s Financial Needs Test. PA Families Inc. partners with the Office of Children, Youth, and Families (OCYF) to provide comprehensive support and resources for children and families in Pennsylvania. Discover programs, services, and assistance available for a brighter future. Children, Youth and Families OCYF Pennsylvania’s Child Welfare System is a state supervised and county administered. Every county has a Children and Youth Services Agency that organizes and manages the services that are available in that county. The name of the Children and Youth Services Agency may vary in each county. The purpose of a Children and Youth Services Agency is to provide child welfare services designed to protect children from abuse, neglect, and enable children to remain safely in their homes. It provides services to help families overcome problems that result in dependency, neglect, and delinquency, and to enhance the family’s capacity to provide for their children’s educational, physical, and behavioral health needs. The Children and Youth Service Agency provides adequate substitute care in foster family homes and child caring institutions for any child in need of care due to abuse or neglect. Services are available to children from birth to 18 years of age. However, if a youth should choose to stay involved, in the state of Pennsylvania they can stay until the age of 21. Children and Youth Services promote and protect the health and welfare of children with the focus of keeping families together through protective services. When placement does occur, the goal is to reconnect and reunify the child with the family in as an effective and timely way possible, while ensuring the safety of the child. Why Children, Youth and Families May Be Involved With Your Family The Children, Youth and Families (CYF) works with families that are having a difficult time providing a safe and nurturing environment for their children. CYF is the agency designated by state law to look into allegations of child abuse and neglect. CYF receives referrals from friends, family, neighbors and others; the agency also receives referrals from parents themselves. CYF assigns a Caseworker to look into the allegations and to decide if CYF can help. By law, the agency will offer services to families when: Parents are not able to care for children and no other responsible adult is availableChildren that may have been injured, abused, or sexually molested by their parents or caretakers; children are not adequately cared for or supervised; in certain situations, when parents need help with their problems or their children’s problems. Keeping Families Together The agency’s preference is to keep families together. If your children can live with you and be safe, they will stay with you. Most families who are involved with OCYF continue to live together under the same roof. While parents continue to parent, they are also receiving services from the agency. A Caseworker will meet with family members in the home to assist the family in working through problems. The frequency of home visits will be decided by the parents and the Caseworker. If adults and children cannot live together safely, CYF will provide a safe, temporary home for the children. This “out-of-home” placement may be with relatives. It may be with a foster family. Less often, it is in a group home, a residential center or shelter. Real Alternatives < Back Real Alternatives The mission of Real Alternatives is to provide life-affirming alternative to abortion services to assist women faced with crisis pregnancies. National Aviary < Back National Aviary National Aviarys diverse collection comprises more than 600 birds representing more than 200 species from around the world, many of them threatened or endangered in the wild. The National Aviarys large walk-through exhibits create an experience unlike any other  an intimate, up-close interaction between visitors and free-flying birds, including opportunities to hand-feed and meet many species rarely found in zoos anywhere else in the world. In the late nineteenth century, Pittsburghs first plant conservatory was established on the Aviary site, in a location previously occupied by the Western Penitentiary from 1826 to 1880. The conservatory was destroyed by a natural gas explosion in the late 1920s, and in 1952 was rebuilt by the City of Pittsburgh with the addition of birds to the indoor gardens. The Aviary was one of the first zoos to present its collection in free-flight rooms and natural exhibits with over 25,000 square feet of space. In the 1980s, the Aviary began evolving its focus toward wildlife conservation through captive breeding of rare and endangered birds. When municipal budgetary cuts threatened to close the institution in 1991, a group of concerned citizens formed Save the Aviary, Inc., a private nonprofit corporation. The Aviary was privatized in 1992 and a year later, by declaration of the U.S. Congress, the Pittsburgh Aviary was designated honorary national status and renamed the National Aviary in Pittsburgh. With world-first avian breedings, numerous education awards, internationally recognized field research and conservation programs, a world-class avian veterinary program that is breaking new ground in preventative care, and multiple opportunities for interactive experiences, the National Aviary has grown from simply presenting its collection in attractive settings to realizing its responsibility to celebrate, protect and preserve birds for the perpetuation of the web of life.
