About the event
Adult treatment court (ATC) services are traditionally focused on the individual participant, and research has consistently shown that ATCs are effective at reducing recidivism, improving treatment outcomes, and reducing costs.
Substance use affects the entire family, though, and there is a growing body of evidence that demonstrates improved outcomes when family engagement strategies are implemented in ATCs.
These strategies recognize the critical role that family members play in supporting individuals with substance use disorders (SUDs) and aim to create a supportive environment that enhances and sustains treatment and recovery outcomes.
Considering the effects SUDs have on the entire family and that many ATC participants have children and other family members, it is important for ATCs to incorporate new strategies and interventions that view and treat SUDs through a family-centered, holistic lens.
