BC Challenger Baseball
BC Challenger Baseball's Objectives 1. To provide an opportunity for children and youth with cognitive or physical disabilities to enjoy the benefits of playing baseball 2. To educate the community that children with cognitive or physical disabilities can play organized baseball, just like their peers 3. To help the youth in the community "give back" to society, by getting involved in the Challenger program as "Buddies" The first Little League Baseball Challenger Division was formed in the United States in 1988 to allow children with cognitive or physical disabilities the opportunity to play baseball in an environment that catered to their very special needs. The first division in Canada was chartered in 1989 by the Calgary Little League. The first division in British Columbia was formed in Coquitlam in 1992.In 2001, McDonald’s became a sponsor of the provincial Challenger program. Thisrtnership has been very rewarding for bothrties, and continues to grow every year. Inrticular, McDonald’s has provided the support, and Ronald McDonald, every year for the highly successful BC Challenger Jamboree. This Jamboree is a chance for everyrticipant in the province to enjoy the wonderful Challenger “experience”: the fun, the fellowship, the entertainment, and the sportsmanship.In 2010, Little League BC and BC Minor Baseball Association created artnership to mutually promote the Challenger Baseball program in BC, under the auspices of Baseball BC. Today, there are twelve communities in BC that have chartered a Challenger Division, while over 30,000 childrenrticipate in more than 900 Challenger Divisions worldwide. Disabled Children's Recreation
