Franklin County 4-H Therapeutic Riding Center

We provide recreation and therapy through horsemanship to persons with special needs.

In February 1980, representatives of the Franklin County Easter Seals Society and the county’s 4-H program met to establish a horse therapy center.

After investigating several locations, committee members decided that a new facility should be built, and the Franklin County Commissioners donated land at the county farm.

Financial support from a fundraising effort enabled the stable to be constructed the following year. The program opened in the spring of 1982 with three horses and five riders.

The program blossomed and grew over the years.

During the 10th anniversary, an indoor riding arena, physical therapy room, tack room, and four horse stalls were added.

Additional amenities, restroom facility, entry area, and utility room, were completed in 1996.

A second outdoor arena was added in the fall of 1997 and a driving program instituted in 1999.
