KenCrest Services
Our mission is to provide services to individuals who have or are at risk of having mental retardation or developmental disabilities in a manner that respects individual rights, enhances potential and enables people to have control over their own lives.Founded in 1905 by Lutheran deaconess Maria Roeck, KenCrest began as the Kensington Dispensary for the treatment and prevention of tuberculosis. In 1955 another Lutheran deaconess, Sister Grace Jones, challenged her board of directors to address the needs of other people in need in the community, children with disabilities. Within a year the organization had reorganized itself and had opened two classrooms for children with intellectual disabilities. From there the organization grew in its scope and geographic reach, always believing that people should be supported in their own homes and communities.
