Pennsylvania Benchbook and the New Benchbook Resource Companion for Judges Family Court

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has issued a new reference guide intended to help family court judges address the special needs of abused and neglected children.

The “Pennsylvania Dependency Benchbook” includes information, tools, and best practices that Supreme Court Justice Max Baer characterized as building blocks in the Supreme Court's ongoing efforts to reduce delays in placing at-risk children in safe, nurturing, and permanent homes.

The Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts' Office of Children and Families in the Courts has worked closely with DPW’s Office of Children, Youth, and Families to reduce the number of children in foster care from more than 21,000 in 2006 to fewer than 16,000 today.
