American Mental Wellness Association < Back American Mental Wellness Association We are building healthier lives free of mental health problems through educational outreach. We envision a world that, through public education, values prevention, early intervention, scientific research, and cures of mental health problems for the holistic health of the individual and society. In 2012, The Mental Wellness Awareness Association, Inc. (MWAA) was founded in Pennsylvania by a group of individuals to promote prevention, early intervention, scientific research and cures for mental health problems across the state. The four programs of the MWAA are Mental Wellness Presentations, Mental Health First Aid training with National Certification, Mental Wellness Research Information, and Mental Health Advance Directives. In 2016, the MWAA expanded its’ reach to a national level to unify individuals and organizations who support prevention, early intervention, scientific research, and cures for mental health problems by creating the American Mental Wellness Association (AMWA). The American Mental Wellness Association is the umbrella organization which unites individuals and organizations together as one voice for mental wellness in the United States. Public Education: Through training and partnerships with local, state and national organizations, we bring education to schools and universities; to physician’s offices and hospitals; to corrections, law enforcement, police, and public safety personnel; to military members, veterans and their families, to faith-based organizations; to senior citizens, etc. Prevention and Early Intervention: Mental Health problems can be classified in stages, similar to other physical health problems. By promoting mental wellness we educate to prevent illness, encourage prompt, appropriate care at the first episode and during other stages. Scientific Research: Partnerships with researchers, clinicians, and analysts enables collaboration on treatments for mental health problems. We enable open communication of new research ideas. Cures: We seek cures for mental health problems in our lifetime.

​Intensive Behavioral Health Services IBHS < Back Intensive Behavioral Health Services IBHS Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS) support children, youth, and young adults with mental, emotional, and behavioral health needs. IBHS offers a wide array of services that meet the needs of these individuals in their homes, schools, and communities. IBHS has three categories of service: 1) Individual services which provide services to one child; 2) Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) which is a specific behavioral approach to services; and 3) Group services which are most often provided to multiple children at a specific place. Stigma can enable shame, disgrace, and discrimination among people who are at increased risk for, experiencing, or in recovery from substance and opioid use disorders. There are three types of stigma in substance use disorder: public, self, and structural. ▪ Public or social stigma is when the general population supports stereotypes and then discriminates against individuals with a substance or opioid use disorder. ▪ Self-stigma is when individuals with a substance or opioid use disorder internalize the stereotypical messages they receive from the public, leading to feelings of shame and inadequacy. ▪ Structural stigma refers to the rules, policies, and practices of social institutions that arbitrarily restrict the rights and opportunities of people with substance or opioid use disorders. Because stigma in substance and opioid use disorders is enacted on multiple levels, it can negatively impact every aspect of the disorder and its treatment, from individual health and recovery to the provision of resources and treatment to policymaking.
