  • PA BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CHOICES

< Back PA BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CHOICES Mental health and drug and alcohol services provided via the HealthChoices program differ from the physical health component of the HealthChoices program. For mental health and drug and alcohol services, each county contracts with a Managed Care Organization (MCO). Once you are enrolled with the MCO, you continue to have choices as to who provides your services. The MCO will send you a handbook outlining how to access services and outlining the benefits available to you. If a practitioner is a HealthChoices participating provider and is accepting new clients, you have the right to see that doctor. Under the behavioral health component of the HealthChoices program, County Mental Health programs are required to ensure high-quality care and timely access to appropriate mental health and drug and alcohol services, and to facilitate effective coordination with other needed services. Each HealthChoices consumer is assigned a Behavioral Health Managed Care Organization (BH-MCO) based on his or her county of residence. Members, then, have a choice of Behavioral Health Care providers within the BH-MCO's network. You can use the following chart on the website to determine the BH-MCO that operates in your county and click the corresponding link provided to access their webpage.

  • PARENTS OF ADDICTED LOVED ONES SUPPORT GROUP Lancaster County (New Holland)

< Back PARENTS OF ADDICTED LOVED ONES SUPPORT GROUP Lancaster County (New Holland) This is the founding principle of the PAL movement. People helping people through the woods. PAL groups meet weekly to educate, support and help each other with issues arising from loving someone with an addiction. Each PAL group is facilitated by a peer, someone walking the same path. While the focus is on parents with an addicted child, all family member and friends are welcome to attend PAL meetings. Parents with a child addicted to drugs and/or alcohol can find hope in a support program called Parents of Addicted Loved-ones (PAL). PAL was founded in 2006 by Michael Speakman, LISAC while working as an in-patient Substance Abuse Counselor in Arizona. As the number of meetings spread due to growing demand, volunteer facilitators were trained and new meetings opened across the Phoenix metropolitan area. In 2015, PAL was incorporated as a Christian run non-profit and falls under a 501c(3) for charitable donations as a partner with another Christian organization, Partners In Action. PAL meetings are open to anyone of any faith or background as our primary goal is to provide hope through education and support for parents dealing with addicted loved ones. PAL is now governed by a volunteer board. NOTE: Please use the south entrance and follow the PAL signs. Wednesday evenings: 7:15 pm – 8:45 pm Information: Sue at 3moms4hope@gmail.com https://palgroup.org/find-a-meeting/pennsylvania-pal-meetings/

< Back VIMEO: Explaining the Brain to Children and Adolescents Explaining the Brain to Children and Adolescents. Dr. Allison Sampson Jackson draws from Dr. Dan Siegel, the Hawn Foundation, Joseph LeDoux and many others who have helped to understand the importance of knowing and sharing with others the ways in which the “upstairs” and “downstairs” brain impact our ability to learn and change behavior. This video combines the learning from these 3 sources to demonstrate in “layman’s” terms how to help ourselves, teens, and young children understand their upstairs and downstairs brains and what happens when we experience a threat. Dr. Jackson also highlights how calming strategies, such as mindfulness, impact the different parts of the brain
